Introducing GentleWhite®, Fast Comfortable and Powerful Whitening, now Available from Dr. Hank Baretto.
The most common (and most effective) tooth bleaching agent is peroxide. Whether specified as hydrogen peroxide or cabamide peroxide or sodium percarbonate, they all break down to some concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide not only bleaches teeth, it also irritates gum tissue and causes sensitivity by invading tooth nerves via tiny water-filled ducts in the teeth. These ducts are called dentinal tubules.
The most common method of limiting the amount of sensitivity and gum irritation is by limiting the amount of peroxide by using a weaker concentration. Of course, this also limits the effectiveness of the bleach.

A common method for limiting the amount of gum irritation is to cover the gums with a dam or resist. This is a separate substance that masks the gums, just as you would mask a window pane before painting a bedroom; you can't paint perfectly straight, so you use masking tape to keep the paint off the glass. Similarly, your dentist applies peroxide to your teeth. While this mask is effective, it takes time to apply, and is rarely applied perfectly, since gums and teeth are highly irregular surfaces. When this happens, small lesions can form around the margins of gums. What's more, this masking technique does nothing for protecting the dental nerves, since the dentinal tubules are inside the teeth; not available to your dentist to paint on a mask. Consequently, peroxide formulations that are strong enough to bleach your teeth often cause sensitivity that can last for days, even weeks.
GentleWhite® approaches
this problem in a completely novel way. Rather than mask the gingival
tissues, GentleWhite® recognizes a fundamental
chemical difference between tooth structure and soft tissue: Soft tissues
(including gums and dentinal tubules) are composed mostly of water, whereas
teeth contain very little water. GentleWhite® is
specially formulated to detect water. When it finds water, it forms a
chemical barrier that peroxide will not cross.
This
means that, without a dam or mask, gingival tissues are not irritated
by the peroxide, and dentinal tubules, physically unavailable to be protected,
ar chemically protected from peroxide, preventing nerve irritation and
consequential sensitivity. While teeth, largely water-free, are left available
to be scrubbed white by the peroxide.
The end result: beautiful white teeth, no pain, no sensitivity, and less time spent in the dental chair or with trays in your mouth. (GentleWhite® At-Home Formulation requires only 20 minutes per day; not overnight) And you can even take high-powered whitening with you anywhere with GentleWhite® unique QuickStick.
The recent surge in makeover shows has spawned significant interest in self-improvement, especially the quality of one's smile. Virtually every on of these makeovers includes dental work - especially teeth bleaching, often followed by veneers. Our office can help you look and feel your best with the latest in cosmetic dental techniques and materials.
We have selected - and been selected - to use GentleWhite® products, since
they not only deliver excellent bleaching results, but do so with the lowest
level of side effects and greatest patient comfort and convenience of any
bleaching system on the market.
Often, bleaching alone is all that is needed to give you a terrific white smile. Bust as good as bleaching is and as much improvement as it can deliver to most people, it is not perfect. Several factors contribute to the effectiveness of peroxide teeth bleaching. These include your body chemistry, general health and condition of your teeth, the amount and type of dental restorations you have, your medical history, medications you take or have taken, and many other factors. If you watch makeover shows carefully, you will find that they rarely only do bleaching.
Whatever it takes (and more than that), our staff is prepared to deliver the latest in cosmetic dentistry to help make you the best you can be.
